When it added furniture items in 2008, it offered only pieces made locally using “reclaimed vintage Douglas Fir.” Now, in addition to using responsibly sourced materials that are healthy for family, home and the environment, Amenity is providing people around the world the chance to showcase their talents and make a living wage from producing their crafts. Customers are able to purchase authentic pieces such as afghans, pillows and woven wool products made by artisans in Bolivia and Chile. It creates a positive situation for both artist and customer since the artists can live in their native villages and produce their crafts, keeping alive a centuries-old tradition, and customers purchasing the work support the artists while having a natural handcrafted product to display in their homes.

Other fibers used by Amenity include hemp, Alpaca and wool. All are sourced from either local producers or in a sustainable way, and all fabric dyes used are eco-friendly. Also, don’t forget the packaging! It only makes sense to wrap these products in the most eco-conscious packaging possible, and Amenity takes care of that, too. Products are enclosed in biodegradable cellulose packages, and shipped in pre-used boxes.
