Most individuals are aware of the 7.0 quake that devastated Haiti last Tuesday – as well as the rising death count which is the result of that quake.  What some people may not be aware of is that millions of individuals have still not received aid.  In what the United Nations is calling the ‘greatest disaster they’ve ever had to deal with,’ so many people are still trapped under mounds of rubble, and the ones that are not are desperate with need of food, water, and medical care.

Celebrities Stepping Up:

Many celebrities, who have been watching the heartbreaking devastation along with the rest of us, have been doing what they can to help Haitians.  Wyclef Jean, native Haitian, has been among the most outspoken celebrities, shooting commercials and using his charity Yele Haiti to help get aid to the people who need it most.  Kevin Smith, director of the Jay and Silent Bob movies, sent a message out on Twitter directing followers to eBay auctions of his personal items in order to raise aid money.  There are many other celebrities stepping up as well, including those who are to participate in a massive event designed to raise money for the people of Haiti.

Hope for Haiti

MTV has announced that ‘Hope for Haiti,’ will air January 22, and will include musical performances and appearances by many different celebrities.  Among those signed up are Bruce Springsteen, Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Keith Urban, Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera and Bono.

George Clooney will be hosting the event, and it will be televised on at least 11 major television networks, from MTV and CNN to National Geographic channels across the globe. 

Reportedly, Wyclef Jean will be leading the show from New York, while Clooney leads on the Los Angeles end – and CNN reporter Anderson Cooper hosts in Haiti.  The celebrities and musicians scheduled to be a part of the event have not been announced as of yet.  It’s reported that the event will air for two hours at the least.

Hope for Haiti will benefit Jean’s Yele Haiti Foundation, as well as Unicef, Oxfam America, Partners in Health and the Red Cross.
